Cervical Disc Herniation

DePuy Discover

This randomized clinical trial is looking for patients with symptoms of degenerative disc disease (DDD); which is when one or more of the discs wear out too quickly due to injury or other physical stress. People who have not improved with physical therapy or prescription medicines may undergo a surgical procedure called cervical fusion.

The Discover Cervical Disc Research Study is an investigation study to determine the effectiveness and safety of a new medical devices for DDD call the Discover Artificial Cervical Disc.  The Discover Artificial Cervical Disc allows surgeons to replace a degenerated disc with an artificial disc, which may reduce or eliminate the pain associated with the DDD without fusion.

A partial list of the inclusion criteria includes:

  • Be between 21 and 70 years old.
  • Be diagnosed with Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
  • Have recurring neck and/or arm pain for at least 6 weeks despite taking prescription medicine or other therapy
  • Be able to receive treatment and participate in all follow-up appointments

If you qualify you will be randomized to one of two treatment groups, either fusion or the Discover Artificial Disc the night before your surgery.  You will not know which treatment you will be receiving.
